Away from our customary projects and outreaches, the FDO foundation also focus on bringing light and sharing the story of people living with disabilities (PWD) who have strived against all odds. This will further reiterate that we are committed to support humanity irrespective of age, color, race or ethnicity.
In Akure, the capital city of Ondo state, Nigeria, FDO Foundation, formerly known as Project Hope Nigeria showed up to show solidarity with a young woman who has been disabled since age 2 and still has 3 growing business. She has proven that regardless of what life has thrown at her, she has made beauty out of her ashes and is super determined to forge ahead.
On 22nd of June, We set out to carry out a documentary tagged “A day in her life”. FDO Foundation intends to showcase her as an Amazon which she truly is by promoting her business, helping her get the support she needs to get the best of life. Through intimate storytelling and candid interviews, it showcases the resilience, adaptability and determination of individuals who refused to be defined by their disabilities. We firmly believe that sharing your story has a way of keeping you motivated and that’s exactly what we are trying to achieve.
Our project has been able to impact conversation across social media platforms about inclusion and acceptability. It has encouraged PWD to keep sharing their stories and embracing their unique self.
The key takeaway from the project is that people living with disabilities are not their disabilities; they are individuals with multidimensional passion, talents and dreams so we as a society must be kind to them and give them an environment that allows them to thrive and grow
Challenging stereotypes requires education ,empathy and understanding from everyone of usTogether, we can create a more inclusive world where barriers are broken and stereotypes are challenged.
